Arizona Artisans: Coolidge May Fest 2015

It was the first official 100 degree day in Coolidge, but with Arizona in our blood, we could not be so easily scared off. Tax season was over, so my mother and I transformed the parking lot of Coolidge Bookkeeping into May Fest 2015.

15 different vendors were represented at the May Fest selling everything from soaps and cactus jelly to sea inspired jewelry and artisan Greek pastries. The Veterans' booth supplied sno-cones and hot dogs and the spice lady had samples of her chicken tacos.

I had been down to two previous "fairs" in Coolidge, but this one had double the vendors and I made almost double the sales over the two days.

Local artists like 90 year old, Reed Chesley, had several of his original works for sale. Some of my Coolidge High School friends stopped by to say "hello". It was a great way to show this little "cow town" a bit of culture and beautiful handmade goods. Several of the vendors came from other cities and were very impressed with how well organized things were - my mom, Jan Barnett, did a great job!

I know, "never say never" but I don't plan on doing another full blown fair like this one any time soon. It took forever to set up all my stuff, because the displays are really designed for a shop setting and not a fair booth...hopefully we will someday find a permanent home for all my A Magnificent Yearning designs. Until then, I will have a display case at my dad's office, Coolidge Bookkeeping.

By 3pm on the last day, all other venders had packed up and gone home. We waited for the Basket Dancers from Blackwater to perform and the band to play a few songs before billowing thunderheads in the distance blasted a dust storm that had us scrambling to get all my stuff inside the building. I lost all my garden ornaments to the wicked wind, but saved everything else.
